In 2011 Almira was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia that required bone marrow transplantation as treatment. After undergoing part of the treatment in St. Petersburg, Almira traveled with her parents to Israel where she received the bone marrow transplant from her baby sister. Numerous chemotherapy cycles and whole-body radiation therapy helped ensure success of the treatment. Currently, Almira is doing well and going to school. However, she needs to undergo annual evaluation to monitor her health for any changes. In 2017 Almira will travel to Israel for the 5th time for her annual post-transplant evaluation. If all is well, she will no longer need to be monitored by Israeli doctors. Almira’s family needs help with the costs of the travel and testing procedures.
